Inside Scale IV: Where Avnos Puts Innovation to the Test 

Before new technologies are deployed in the field, they are rigorously tested and refined.

That’s the role of Scale IV, Avnos’ advanced testing platform at our Technology Development Center in Bridgewater, New Jersey. 

By simulating real-world operating environments, Scale IV helps us validate performance, accelerate product development, and demonstrate our technology is ready for commercial deployment. 

Scale IV exists for one core reason: to recreate the temperature and humidity conditions our systems will encounter in the field, so our engineering teams can evaluate performance under repeatable, controlled conditions. By recreating these environments on demand, we can complete targeted testing year-round rather than waiting for seasonal weather, compare results with confidence, and rapidly assess design improvements. 

Scale IV builds on the success of our Project Alpine pilot in Bakersfield, California, which became operational in 2023 with support from the U.S. Department of Energy. As the world’s first operational Hybrid Direct Air Capture (HDAC™) system, Alpine demonstrated our ability to produce clean water while removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere – without external heat input. It also generated operational data that shaped the next generation of Avnos technology. 

With Project Alpine complete, Scale IV is now Avnos’ primary platform for engineering development and technology validation.

As we manufacture factory-built modules at scale, Scale IV enables us to evaluate and validate new materials, components, and design improvements before they’re incorporated – shortening development cycles and increasing confidence in performance.
